EAD wins regional award for environmental work - UAE Interact



The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) has received another regional recognition for its innovative environmental awareness programmes, in the best Environment Awareness Category at the sixth edition of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Prize for Best Environmental Activities.

Dr. Jaber Eidha Al Jaberi, Deputy Secretary General of EAD, accepted the award on behalf of the Agency.

EAD received the award at a ceremony held in Jeddah, and was among a number of regionally-based government entities that won awards across various categories.

EAD was awarded for its online efforts to spread environmental awareness to the local community. The agency was recognised for its work on ten websites including, EAD's corporate website, Jewels of the UAE', Paperless Day, Vote Butinah!, Turn It Off!, Make the UAE Plastic Bag-Free, Green Your Life (in collaboration with Sorouh), Shaheen's World, Sustainable Schools Initiative, and the Annual Environment Competition.

The GCC Prize is an initiative of the GCC General Secretariat to recognise individuals and organisations which demonstrate pioneering efforts in complying with environmental standards, environmental conservation and raising environmental awareness in their community. The award is given once every two years.

Al Jaberi, Deputy Secretary General of EAD, said: "EAD works to fulfil its duty of protecting the natural environment of Abu Dhabi for the welfare of future generations.
